Microsoft’s Free Windows 10 Upgrade Offer Ending Soon

Since Windows 10 launched last summer, Microsoft has been encouraging customers — especially those using Windows 7 and 8.1 — to upgrade to its newest operating system. The Windows 10 upgrade is still free until July 29, 2016. After that date, users who wish to switch will shell out $120-199 per installation.

The free upgrade is clearly an amazing deal, but determining whether Windows 10 is right for you will depend on your current hardware and software setup. Not every desktop, printer, or tablet has compatible driver software for Windows 10. There may be compatibility issues with your application software as well. Provident Technology can check for compatibility, and perform the installation and configuration of Windows 10 to get you up and running quickly, with minimal disruption to your work day. We also provide support for users who took the upgrade and want their old and familiar operating system back.

What happens if you can't get Windows 10 because of a compatibility issue, or aren't ready to upgrade just yet? Microsoft will still support Windows 7 with security patches until Jan 14, 2020 — Windows 8.1 users have even longer, until 2023. According to Microsoft, Windows 10 will be the last release of its flagship operating system — future releases will build upon the Windows 10 core. We're expecting the next one, so far called Windows 10 Redstone, to come out this summer.

Let us know if you are thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 this summer. Provident will identify and discuss any compatibility issues there may be, so you can make an informed choice of whether to upgrade before July 29.
